Faust: The Dichotomy Of Gretchen In the typeize "Faust" by Johann Goethe, Gretchens character envelops quantity aspects of Virgin bloody pathos and of eve. Mary acts as the symbol of the fix of mankind, the pure muliebrity who makes mens salvation possible. She has no unholy in her at all.
